IT drives social innovation

Information technology is commonly used to maximize profits and minimize costs of a company. However, we can use create a sustainable society through information technology. How can we use information technology to make people lives easier without harming the world's ecosystems. To create the social innovation business, we can focus more on the environment instead of cash cow. To achieve this goal, the social innovation business, IT-based social structures should consider the balance between the economy and the environment.

Hitachi build innovative social infrastructure for water, transportation, energy. One of the examples of innovative social infrastructures is Hitachi Rail Europe. 

Hitachi built a high-speed line for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. To reduce costs of maintenance, Hitachi used IT to create values to visitors for the Olympic Games. In addition, this rail road stabilized traffic and provided flexible traffic plans in case of rush hour. Furthermore, Hitachi integrated Operations Technology and IT to use information to the full. Once data is collected from Operations Technology, Information technology analyze, predict and recognize the balance between demand and supply.
