Digital Education in Developing Countries

Many children in the world do not have opportunity to be educated and study what the want because of the lack of supplies of books and teachers. In developing countries such as Kenya, some 46 million African children have never been to a classroom. Since there is a shortage of spending on education in Africa, establishing schools and hiring teachers is long lasting issues. Nowadays, we have seen and read articles regarding to digital education in developing countries as cost-effective technologies is emerged in the world. However, these days, tablets are the next game changer to improve the quality of education and teachers.

eLimu, a technology start-up, provided tablets to Amaf School in Kenya for a part of its pilot project. This organization expects that the digital books and contents will be cheaper and more affordable so that more students in developing countries will have more chances to study with a better environment.

In addition, eight out of ten parents is willing to pay tuition for courses outside school (Economist, 2012). This shows that people in Kenya consider education as one of the investment for their children' future. Actually, digital tools like tablets will help students improve their knowledge and technical skills through the given Kindle e-readers by Worldreader (Economist, 2012). This situation indicates that there are opportunities for developing countries and organizations that support kids digitally. I think supporting people in need digitally will be more helpful instead of financial aids. This is because digital education teach students how to live off and provide them with common knowledge that make them independent. I hope many organizations and developing countries get together to discuss how to implement new technologies efficiently to the remote areas.
